Day one of our wedding anniversary celebrations. Yup, like everything else we do it in overdrive and celebrate two days of tying the knot.
It all started when we were living at Sun City. Our ceremony and reception was planned for 15 September at Sun City. We had to officially tie the knot on the evening of 14 September in the study of the pastor residing in Rustenburg. Marriages in Sun City were not deemed official as it was still then Bophutatswana.
We nipped through to Rustenburg on the evening of 14 September 1990 at about 18:00. Walked into the study, said :”I Do” walked out at 18:05 and we were married. I looked Christopher in the eye and said :” Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking this is our wedding day. It is not. We will ONLY celebrate 15 September and never think of this day again.’ Hmmmm… should never had said never.
Today, tomorrow is our 33rd wedding anniversary. We have know each other 36 years.Thats a fucking long time.
Years ago I realised the folly of only celebrating one day when I could be celebrating two days. That is two days of eating out. Beats cooking everyday.
This morning I got up, made beautiful scones, set the table ( with napkins nogal) and waited for Christopher to emerge from the room. He walked in, took one look at the table and said what he says every year:” I thought we are only celebrating on the 15th of September…”
Here is a shoutout to the guy that married me twice, bought me a farm, stayed calm during my menopause, is a great dad to our offspring and last but not least PAYS MY VET BILLS! Love you Dad!
