Those are wise words unfortunately not heeded in my life.

I look like a railroad track tonight. There is a red strip running down the length of my body from my forehead to my feet. Either side of this strip is tinged in “beige”. The red is sunburn and it affects all the sticky-out bits. My nose, boobs and knees are looking the worst. As usual with sunburn everything is pulled tight. I have rummaged through the cupboards desperate to find some Alo Vera gel but no such luck. Who gets sunburn over the coldest days with temps dropping to 3 degrees? Well, obviously I do.

It all started when we made a hasty decision to celebrate our coming wedding anniversary taking a 3 day break to the sea. We leave next Saturday and return the following Monday. How exciting, what more could a girl want?

A suntan. Quickly before we leave. The problem is that with these temps we are experiencing I would not even think of baring all to the non existent sun. I did have a plan though. My lady that does my nails has a sun bed in her salon. Ten sessions booked and I quickly went for the first session. I must admit I had high hopes for this sun bed but when I checked myself the evening after the first session I saw no promise of a golden me. The second session also disappointed me and with that in mind I stormed the salon today asking if I could please have two sessions. Time was running out and I wanted to wear my summer outfits in style, suntan included. Chantelle agreed but cautioned me to please turn on my sides after the first ten minute session.

I intended to do just that but then I thought what harm could another ten minutes do in the same position? In my defence it is a little uncomfortable lying on your side in the fluorescent space ship and being a creature of comfort I quickly returned to lying on my back.

Tonight I am sorry I didn’t listen to her. These girls know what they are talking about. I should have heeded her cautionary tone. Now I look like a lighthouse, a beaming beacon of regret. I have no balance in life. It’s either full throttle ahead or nothing. Regret is real. My eyeballs are on fire.

I don’t know how I aim going to explain my flushed look to my husband when he gets home. I hope he won’t notice….

There are no pictures to entertain you with accompanying this post. Use your imagination. Just colour the pic in red.

Maintain a balance in life. Those are wise words unfortunately not heeded in my life.
